Modifications to the mechanical and electrical services within a 24 bed Gastroenterology and Surgical ward, including replacement of false ceilings, general building works, repairs and decorations

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Fulham Road, London
Brief

Our brief was to undertake the removal of sections of the existing mechanical and electrical services within the Childrens’ Mercury Ward. We were tasked with carrying out extensive modifications to the ductwork systems and overhauling and refurbishing the existing air handling unit, Also to commission and balance the systems on completion. All work was to be completed to a strict time frame as the ward was closed for a fixed duration of time during works.

Solution

From the commencement of the programme we carried out a detailed condition survey of the ward, including the existing services, and undertook controlled removal of items which were then stored for reinstatement on completion of the works. We removed existing false ceilings as necessary and removed the existing ductwork and transported this from the site. We installed new ductwork systems and re-instated the ceilings services once the work within the ceiling voids was completed. Re-instated fixtures and fittings and repaired decorations as necessary.

Outcome

The project was completed successfully on time and on budget, ensuring the ward was able to be re-occupied in line with the hospital management plans.
