Our brief was to undertake the mechanical and electrical services feasibility development and designs for a new build four-block Academy School to BREEAM’s sustainability compliance, incorporating suitable renewable energy sources. The installation of the mechanical and electrical services in accordance with the completed designs was to be carried out within a strict timetable to permit the school to be in use at the start of the new school year.
The extensive design and build was undertaken across workshops, technician classrooms, science laboratories, classrooms, offices, restaurant, and kitchen. Installation was BREEAM compliant and applied proficient energy-saving equipment, fittings, plant and appliances.
Mechanical installation included under floor heating, trench heating and radiators. Domestic water services incorporated above-ground drainage, ventilation services and air conditioning. A BMS with a public analysis system to view up-to-date energy efficiency and usage for the building was installed. All electrical installation was compliant with ISS and BS for schools. Including interactive whiteboard, internal architectural and functional and external lighting compliant with ILE light pollution regulations, and flood lighting in accordance with Sports England. Internal and external biometric access control, alarms, small power, data, telephone, fire alarm and curtains, and PA system were installed.
Successful completion of the school to programme and on budget, resulting in an excellent opportunity for pupils and teachers in a secondary school and skills training college environment to thrive in a sustainable environment.
